Telangana to seek adjournment of Krishna water meet

HYDERABAD : The Telangana government, which is not happy with the Brijesh Kumar Tribunal, will seek adjournment of hearing on Krishna river water sharing when the tribunal takes up the case on April 14.
“The Brijesh Kumar Tribunal has fixed opinions. Our advocates will seek more time to present our views to the tribunal,” an official told Express.
Another reason is that the state government is hopeful that the Centre will introduce a bill in Parliament soon for creation of one single tribunal for all river disputes. In that event, the Brijesh Kumar Tribunal will cease to exist automatically.
Meanwhile, irrigation minister T Harish Rao convened a meeting of officials of all the departments concerned to discuss ways of improving the ground water table in the state. At present, the panchayat raj, GHMC, HMDA and some other departments are working to improve the ground water table but without much coordination.
“We want to integrate the efforts of all these departments and make concerted efforts to improve the ground water table,” an official said.
The state government has already decided to divert Krishna and Godavari waters to as many minor irrigation tanks as possible to benefit farmers. Recharging of ground water will also take place simultaneously.
