Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao on Wednesday instructed the officials to ensure transparency in selection of beneficiaries of double bedroom houses in Siddipet town. With the government completing construction of double bedroom houses at Narsapur village on the outskirts of Siddipet town, the district administration has invited applications from eligible citizens.

Since they have received a whopping 11,657 applications for about 1,900 houses, the Minister directed the officials to prepare the selection list carefully after conducting a door-to-door survey by visiting the houses of applicants. “Only the most deserving should be selected after a thorough process,” the Minister said.

Saying that the government was committed to implement Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao’s promise of providing double-bed room houses to all the poor and needy, Rao said the government spent about Rs 15 lakhs including the cost of the land on each of the double-bed room house that was built in Siddipet. These houses were built in G+2 mode. He said that the double-bed room houses of such quality were being sold at Rs 20 lakh each in the open market. Stating that no government had ever spent so much amount on a single house that was provided to BPL communities in India, Rao said that the Chief Minister had dreamt up providing first-class housing to each and every homeless.

The Minister also attended a felicitation ceremony organised for 52 Haj pilgrims from Siddiept district on Wednesday. Stating that the State government has initiated several measures for the welfare of Muslims, Rao said a Haj house is being constructed with an estimated cost of  Rs 2 crore in the town.
