TPCC may face tough times ahead as BC leaders from the party are raising their voice for social justice and demanding tickets for the forthcoming Assembly elections. Some senior leaders like former MP V. Hanumantha Rao are publicly demanding two Assembly segments from every parliamentary constituency for the Backward Classes.

BC leaders led by Mr R. Krishnaiah met Congress senior leader K. Jana Reddy last week and requested him to allot at least 50 per cent of the seats for the BC community. In addition, leaders belonging to SC and ST communities are lobbying for tickets. Addressing a meeting on Sunday, Mr Rao said, “We are ready to give at least two tickets for the BCs in each parliamentary constituency.”

Going by Mr Hanumantha Rao’s statement, the Congress would give at least 34 seats to the BCs from the 17 parliamentary constituencies. This would be apart from the candidates from the community with good chances of winning. There is talk among the party leaders that the high command had decided to give 34 seats to BC candidates and 31 seats to SC, ST communities.

A senior leader of the party denied this saying, “The AICC is looking out for winning horses. The number is not limited to 34 or 31. If they find more worthy candidates then the number will be increased and there will be no restriction. But, the figures which were out can’t be believed.”Some senior leaders want to finalise the list of candidates before more controversies crop up.
